Odell
All Saints Church

Places > Odell > Churches

The list of incumbents goes back to 1220; the present church built in the 15th century replaces an earlier building. Much of the interest of the church lies in its 17th century fittings some of which were obtained through a bequest of 1637 from William Alston who had bought Odell Castle estate in 1633.

His descendants lived there until the early 20th century and members of the family are commemorated by monuments and hatchments in the church.

In 1863 the Rev. William Cornish Hunt became rector and he undertook some restoration including removing the enclosed pews in the nave and chancel.
