Reading Group FAQs?

Reading Group Home | Books Home

Can my group join?

We are not accepting new groups at the moment as we are at maximum capacity. However groups are removed from the service if they do not use us for 6 months so we do run a waiting list of groups that would like to join.
Please contact us at readinggroups@bedford.gov.uk

How many people can be in a Reading Group?

The library card for your Reading Group is for up to ten people; this is the maximum number of copies of a titles you can borrow.

Can Reading Groups request anything?

No. You can only request titles from the Reading Group Collection; all requests are free.
You are allowed two sets of books at one time; either two on loan or one on loan and one reserved.
We ask that the books are all issued to your Reading Group Card at one time and are returned as a set, if possible.

If you have special requirements in your group and need a large print or spoken word version of a title you can request these through your local library; we would advise checking that the title you want to read is available in alternative formats using Arena, the online library catalogue.

How long can we keep the books?

You can keep the books for 6 weeks. This is to give you enough time to collect, read, and discuss your chosen title. If you require them for longer than that you can renew using Arena or talk the staff in your local library.
If books are returned late you will be charged concessionary overdue fines per day per book.

You are only allowed to have a maximum of 2 sets on loan at one time, or one on loan and one reserved title. If you have two titles you will not be allowed to request a new title.

What should we do if we lose or damage a book?

We trust that you will take good care of our books, but accidents do happen. If you lose or damage a book please talk to a member of staff as you will have to pay for a replacement.
